Visiting Robbie Burns in Medicine Hat

I write this from the lobby of the Medicine Hat Lodge as we get ready for one more outing before we head back to Edmonton tomorrow morning.

W. Bro. Mark Johnson and I have experienced some wonderful hospitality here in the "Hat" and quite frankly, I almost rue it is over. It has been brutally cold but hardly a bother at all because almost everything one could need for a few days is in the hotel.

Adam's Astronomy Addiction - Chinese Astronomy

Well Brethren,

It has been a while since I've had a chance to post to AAA and I must admit, it's only back by popular demand :-)

From the East - February 2009

The enigmatic nature of Freemasonry is bound to attract the curious. We have all dealt with our share of questions about the brotherhood and usually do so with some degree of pleasure. After all, who doesn’t like sharing with others those things that are important to us? To impart the attributes of Freemasonry from a personal perspective can be a tricky business, but to accept a challenge to debate on behalf of the entire institution without having a thorough understanding of the subject can be reckless.

Secretary's Corner - February

I saw this item the other day and the word “Apron” caught my attention right away. These days my Masonic Apron is the only apron that I am concerned about but in reading the following, I experienced a real sense of nostalgia. I hope it does the same for you.

Nostalgia… Brings a tear to the eye!

I don't think our kids know what an apron is…

Lost Brothers

Talk is rife within the Brotherhood of the downward trend in the numbers of initiates entering into Freemasonry. Talk is all it is, given that we are not an entity that would consider engaging in a proper study of the issue. Our traditions speak loudly to us, leaving us no recourse but to allow the man on the street to walk by the temple, unimpeded, uninformed and blissfully ignorant of our Order. They come to us (not the other way around) and that is the way it should be. But what of the men who did come, became Masons, yet quietly left without a trace.

Secretary's Corner - January

Following in the former Secretary’s steps, I realize how big those steps are to follow. I will give it my best shot though. In the meantime, please bear with me. As a new Secretary, I am learning a whole lot in getting started in this job. Bro Dryden is being patient with me and he will be available for me to lean on. Also, I am trying to learn the ways of the Macintosh computer. After using a PC for so long, everything seems to require so much more time on the Mac.

From the East - January 2009

I have been to Sanctuary and stood with my Brethren - shrouded in the glow of the pale, blue walls that towered over us. I've explored the intricacies of the stained glass windows and raised my eyes to the rich, dark balustrade that leads to the loft and the haunted nooks. I have gazed upon the countenance of men - steadfast in bearing, graceful in demeanor, who, like I, could sense the convergence of energy born in the wake of our ancient rites.

Frayed Ends.

It seems that the moral fabric of society is frayed at the ends.Recreational drug use, binge drinking to excess and promiscuity are the norm.Guns and knives have become the tools of self defense and retribution for many youth, desensitized to graphic violence and profane language in most forms of entertainment in the media.

Somewhere very nearto the center of this moral fabric i believe is Ancient Free and Accepted Masonry.Todays modern Freemasons shine like a beacon of light brighter than ever In a time when society seems to be at it;s darkest.

10 Best Masonic Sites

What is your favourite Masonic Web Site? I mean, other than Exemplar.ca of course.

Seriously, do you browse a website regularly looking for arcane knowledge, forbidden rituals, ghastly penalties, cobbled-up explanations of Masonic symbols and ceremonies? Maybe a little flame on a cold day from an Anti-masonic page?

How about letting your brothers whet their curiosity by sharing your travels on the Internet?

More Psychology

I just finished reading "The Porn Trap" by Wendy Maltz and thought I would post a little review. Overall a very good book especially for someone suffering from an addiction to pornography. It is not really a book for therapists but is more of a self help book for sufferers. Actually most of the advice and strategies given in the book can be used to combat any addiction. The book outlines how to recognize a pornography addiction and work towards combatting it.
