Ok, I have been slacking. I made a promise to write frequently and have fallen short. There are a million reasons. Each acceptable and each merely an excuse. That is the way I find life is often, I am always busy but is it always fulfilling.
Since lodge started up again a couple of weeks ago I have found an area of freemasonry that is bringing me much fulfillment. Visiting. I have had the honour of visiting three other lodges in the past two weeks and each visit brings a unique experience that has revealed much about freemasonry.
The first realization I have made is how vibrant masonry is in our city. Masons have such a love and respect for our fraternity. It is infectious how commited and dedicated our brothers are to our craft. Each lodge performs the work in a way that is the same but unique to them. The work becomes alive as you see how each group takes it, internalizes it and breathes life to it. It is not a series of memorizations and regurgitations but a wholistic ritual that gives so much more than the work that each puts into their piece.
The second realization is how loving our brothers are. I have sat with the kings of men and the cleaners of feet. Each has so much to give and so much to offer. I have spent hours discussing the brotherhood, leadership, manhood and life. Each mason has given that time freely with no expectations. Happy to provide knowledge and guidance. Content in the fact that they were giving back. With no knowledge of me other than the lambskin I wore. The knowledge and wisdom of generations are available freely if one takes the time to say hello.
The third is what is possible for our lodge. I have sat in the midst of brothers that are excited. Brothers who radiate passion for the craft. I have heard lectures that amaze, and have seen brothers in tears take comfort from one another. We are a group of men who when committed can reduce mountains to ashlars and build temples from the same. All is possible when like minded men come together in unity twords a common goal. We must find that spirit of masonry in ourselves. We must regain the passion to do great things, for we are great men.
I would encourage each of my brothers to go out and meet our masonic family. Make the time to head out and see the wonders that our order enbodies. Sit with young masons and share your bounty. Sit with our elders and learn what they so love to give. From Grand lodge officers to entered apprentices we are alive and thriving. From the smallest rural lodge to our grandest gatherings our craft is flourishing. From the hearts of one brother to another we can accomplish anything. The hidden mysteries are waiting to be rediscovered, make the time to come out. To our lodge and others. For our lodge and others.
